Mashup Awards is the biggest hacking ("mashup") competition in Japan, consisting of 3 months of hackathons ("mashup camps") and meetups ("caravans") in cities all across the country, and also accept submissions of hacks through an online submission process.

Gracenote is proud to have sponsored this event, which culminated in the TechCrunch Tokyo Hackathon the second week in November.

Read our Storify for our recap of the event, complete with pictures and links to many of the innovative hacks and "mashups" we saw there, including mood-based playlisting, Terminator-style augmented reality, and (of course) a Samurai app.
